Scouts Wrestling Sets Mark for Team Wins
With a 16-8 dual match record this year, the Lake Forest High School wrestling team reached new heights.

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest High School wrestling team broke a 20-year old school record this season by notching their 16th dual meet win of the year last weekend.
According to Head Coach Matt Fiordirosa, it was a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Zion-Benton that propelled the team to a 34-31 win Friday night. The victory helped secure the Scouts’ 16-8 season record, the most wins the program had achieved since 1996.
“Breaking this record was a huge accomplishment for this hard-working team on their senior night--cheered on by a large group of fans,” Fiordirosa said. “This was a total TEAM effort that everybody in some way, shape, or form contributed in.”

In the Zion-Benton match, the Scouts were trailing by 16 points with only four matches remaining, but both Marty Kalebic and John Frauenheim scored pins and Devin Reich and Cory Barth added hard-fought wins to complete the comeback.
Team wins on Saturday against Elk Grove, Marian Central and Grayslake North clinched the feat.

The week prior, the Scouts achieved another feat not done in years. A win at the Lisle Tournament was the first tournament win for the varsity program in “many years,” Fiordirosa said.
The team will now compete in the conference and state series.
