LGBT Museum Planned in Boystown

A permanent structure honoring gay and lesbian icons could open on Halsted Street in the coming years.

Organizers of Pride Fest and the Boystown Legacy Walk are working to create the permanent museum on north Halsted Street, according to DNAinfo Chicago.

An official location has yet to be selected for the project jointly planned by the Legacy Project and Northalsted Business Alliance.

Both organizations are “seeking to ensure that Boystown remains an equally economically and culturally vibrant neighborhood," according to Christopher Barrett Politan, executive director for the Northalsted Business Alliance.

A previous project of The Legacy Walk included placing plaques of prominent lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender icons along Halsted Street. Since 2012, 35 names have been honored with those placements.
