Ladislav Fromelius scheduled for August trial in $2,000 attack scheme.

Trial Date Set for Naperville Man Accused in Attack Plot

A Naperville man to carry out an attack is set to stand trial in August.

Judge George Bakalis scheduled an Aug. 7 trial date for Ladislav Fromelius during a Tuesday hearing. Bakalis, citing a recent evaluation, also deemed Fromelius is fit to stand trial and does understand what is happening with his case.

Prosecutors allege Fromelius, 73, offered a total of $2,000 to an undercover officer to beat up the executor of an estate of which Fromelius was a beneficiary. He was arrested by Lisle police in 2010 after a two-month investigation, which also turned up weapons at Fromelius’ home.

Last year, a doctor’s report indicated some doubt as to whether Fromelius would be able to stand trial, but a full fitness evaluation determined him to be competent enough for trial.

Charged with soliciting armed violence, aggravated battery and intimidation, Fromelius has pleaded not guilty and is currently free on bond with restrictions on whom he has contact with and when he can leave his residence.
