
An 18-month-old boy died Friday after drowning in a swimming pool, according to a release from the Aurora Police Department.
Uriel Lopez, 18 mos., was found floating face down in the family’s backyard by his 6-year-old sister at around 8:40 p.m. in the 800 block of Hinman Street. Despite attempts to give the boy CPR and other advanced life-saving efforts by the APD and Aurora Fire Department paramedics, the boy was pronounced deceased at 9:41 p.m. by doctors at Rush-Copley Medical Center. Lopez’s death appears to an accident.
According to the preliminary investigation, the boy and his mother, father, and two sisters, had just returned home from grocery shopping. While the family was putting away groceries, the boy walked into the backyard without anyone’s knowledge and somehow made his way into the pool. His family estimates he was only out of their sights for about five minutes.

The Aurora Police is investigating the incident. An autopsy is pending at the Kane County Coroner’s Office in Geneva.
