A winter weather watch will take effect at 12 a.m. on Feb. 1 for Will, DuPage, Grundy, Lake, Cook, McHenry, DeKalb and Boone counties — as well as for more counties throughout northern Illinoiis— and will remain in effect through 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Light snow is expected to start this afternoon through this evening. More steady snow will develop later tonight and continue through Saturday afternoon with as much as six inches of snow or more expected in some areas, according to the NWS.
Some other areas could see ice accumulations. The accumulating snow and ice will result in hazardous driving conditions. Travel through area airports could also be significantly impacted.
Snow is expected mainly north of a line from Streator to Joliet to Chicago, according to weather reports. South of that line, the potential for snow mixed with sleet is possible.
Check the National Weather Service in Chicago for more information.
