Calling Craft Beer Lovers: Brewers Summit Coming to Plainfield

Whether you love to create your own craft brews or just drink them, the March 8 event is open to all beer geeks.

Calling Craft Beer Lovers: Brewers Summit Coming to Plainfield
Whether you make craft beers for a living, brew at home or just love a good beer, you're invited to learn more about the craft beer craze during a March 8 summit at Nevin's Brewing Company in Plainfield.

Eric Woodruff said he and a group of craft beer bloggers are organizing the first-ever Illinois Suburban Brewer Summit, set for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Nevin's, 12337 S. Route 59.

The group of bloggers, dubbing themselves "Ale to the 'Burbs", formed to educate beer lovers about the craft beer craze, Woodruff said. While there are plenty of opportunities to learn about craft brewing in Chicago, they decided to bring it to the suburbs.

"We sort of took it upon ourselves to do it," he said.

He said the March 8 event is open to craft beer geeks, homebrewers and suburban breweries.

"The goal of the ISBS is to give suburban breweries the opportunity to come together and discuss the state of the market, share ideas and experiences, and collaborate on endeavors to spur increased exposure and recognition of the suburban craft beer scene," according to the brewers summit website.

Around 20 local breweries are expected to be part of the event, which will include an hour of beer tasting before and after an open forum sponsored by World of Beer in Naperville. During the forum, guests will be able to ask brewers their burning questions about creating craft beers.

Breweries include:
  • Ale Syndicate
  • Aleman Brewing
  • Church Street Brewing
  • Destihl
  • Emmett's
  • Flesk
  • Goose Island
  • Hopvine
  • Lagunitas
  • Nevin's Brewing
  • One Trick Pony
  • Penrose Brewing (open forum only)
  • Pollyanna Brewing (open forum only)
  • Revolution
  • Slapshot
  • Solemn Oath
  • Temperance Beer
  • Tighthead Brewing
  • Two Brothers Brewing
  • Urban Legend Brewing
  • 350 Brewing

Tickets are $25 each and will get guests tickets for 15 four-ounce pours, appetizers, a commemorative glass courtesy of Midwest Brewers Fest, and a live music performance at Nevin's after the summit.

Beer testing is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., sponsored by The Beer Cellar.

Other sponsors include Chicago Brew Werks of Plainfield, Spent Grain Society and Illinois Craft Brewers Guild.
