Got Junk to Get Rid Of? Call The Junk Removal Dudes

The business serves residents in Naperville, St. Charles, Batavia and other places in Kane, DuPage and Dekalb County.

Alex Broches used to make his living by selling houses, but when his clients would come to him asking if he knew anyone who could remove the junk from the home they were either selling or buying, he had a business idea.

“After hearing this numerous times, I thought maybe I could start a side business removing people’s junk from their home,” Broches said.

He partnered up with a friend of his and began clearing houses of junk part-time. They began in late June, early July and since then his business has really been cleaning up.

“It started off with one job a week in Sycamore or Dekalb, then two jobs a week, then three to five jobs a day now.”

Broches is hoping that within two to three months, he’ll have an office in Naperville that he’ll work out of. He’ll also be looking to hire one to three people to work part-time at first and then maybe full-time, depending on how the business grows.

Jobs range in size for Broches and his crew, named The Junk Removal Dudes. Some jobs are just moving a piano or a couple of boxes, others entail cleaning out the home of a hoarder. There’s no job too big or too small.

Some jobs can also unearth valuable possessions. Broches said they’ve found collectible hockey cards and antique items worth hundreds. But those items aren’t always kept by the team. More often than not, items that don’t have to be thrown out will be donated to thrift stores.

If you’re interested in hiring The Junk Removal Dudes, Broches asks for a 24-hour notice. Broches said they do their jobs “way cheaper” than the competition. With disposal fees included, to fill up their pick-up truck and a 13-foot trailer costs around $400.

“It’s about $150 cheaper than our competitors,” Broches said.
