Trump Win Causes Concern for Naperville Minorities

"It paints an even bigger target on the back of our heads," an LGBT advocate said.

NAPERVILLE, IL — The election of Donald Trump has put many people on edge, especially minorities. Those fears are far greater in the Islamic and LGBT community.

For Naperville LGBT member Eva-Genevieve Scarborough, co-founder of Rainbow Circle, a discussion group open to members of the gay community, Trump’s win could make it “open season on gays.

"It paints an even bigger target on the back of our heads," she told the Tribune.

But still, Trump’s win will not mean she’s going to lock herself back in the closet.

"It's not going to send me into hiding. We're going to have to stand together,” she said in the article.

Islamic Center of Naperville Board Member Aadil Farid told the Tribune he is concerned about Trump’s comments on Muslims, but is committed to unifying.

"The people have spoken," Farid told the Tribune. "There will be differing opinions, but we do believe America has its values intact. We are willing to move forward and work together. It is one nation under God, never different nations within the same nation."

Once Trump gets into office, Farid said he will reach out to members of Congress for support if Trump's plans on Muslims move forward.
