Township deputy clerk Bill Alstrom, who is running for clerk, said Tuesday that Bishop withdrew for personal reasons.

Alstrom said Wheatland Township Republican Organization (WTRO) leaders became aware of Bishop’s decision last week, and that a meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday to select a replacement.

Wednesday is the last day the Wheatland GOP has to choose a candidate.

In an email sent Jan. 27, WTRO officials asked interested Republicans to submit a statement of candidacy if they wished to be considered for the spot.

Bishop was nominated by Republican voters during a Dec. 4, 2012, caucus, along with the rest of the GOP slate.

The remaining Republican slate includes current township clerk Chuck Kern, who is running for township supervisor, along with trustee candidates Darren Bennefield, Mike Crockett, Deb Holscher and Raquel Mitchell. David Monaghan is the Republicans' candidate for assessor.

Meanwhile, current supervisor Todd Morse and highway commissioner Dayton Jarnagin are seeking re-election as Independents.

The rest of the candidates are as follows:

  • Trustees: Catherine Bishir, Gary Brooks, Aatif Rahman (incumbent - currently tax collector), John Weiffenbach
  • Township assessor: Kelli Lord (incumbent)

Wheatland Democrats:

  • Supervisor: Marc Poulos
  • Trustees: Michael J. Allen, Thomas Mikesell, Nick Palmer, Thomas Verdone
  • Clerk: Christine Wawronowicz
  • Township highway commissioner: Dawn De Sart
