A Lincoln-Way West student broke a state bowling record, finishing with 2,967 pins to take the state championship this weekend.

Josh Glover, competing in downstate O'Fallon, is the first Lincoln-Way West boy to win a state title.

“When I left school earlier in the week, my principal (Monica Schmitt) and athletic director (Ted Robbins) told me they wanted that state title,” Glover said. “I promised I’d do it for them."

He averaged 247 over 12 games Saturday — scoring a 300 in the second game — and knocked down four more than the previous record set in 2008, reports Steve Millar for Sun-Times Media.

“I didn’t know how close I was to the state record,” Glover said. “It was a great feeling. I wanted to do this to make my community proud and my family proud.”

LW West student Morgan Flaherty won the girls bowling title in 2012.
