Masked Man Points Finger 'Gun,' Raises Fears

A man wearing a red jester costume and a skeleton mask, completely covering his face, entered a specialty coffee shop in the 5700 block of Touhy Saturday at noon, raised his arms out at the side like an airplane, stopped and stared at customers, all the while mumbling something which could not be understood because of the mask, and then shaped his hand and index finger like a gun and pointed it at a customer, Niles police said. The man walked over to additional customers and stared at them and pointed his finger "gun" at them, then walked out of the coffee shop mumbling.

An employee of the coffee shop told police the man was walking around authoritatively, as if he had a plan, and that she feared he was going to open fire, according to the report. However, he never displayed a gun and she didn't see one on him, she said. Later, an employee from the mobile phone store nearby came into the coffee shop and told employees the man had come into the mobile phone shop and pointed his finger "gun" at people. Police are investigating.

Tools worth $1,450 stolen from home

A 56-year-old Glenview man was rehabbing a home in the 7900 block of Nora, and on Oct. 18 was notified by Village of Niles code enforcement that he had not secured the home properly. When he went to the property, he found that a microwave hood and $1,450 of construction tools were missing. The man believes he may have left the door unlocked; police filed a report.
