U.S. Pizza Museum Will Come to Niles Library Next Month

Pizza artifacts will take center stage in the Franklin Gallery for two months.

NILES, IL - The U.S. Pizza Museum will bring its traveling exhibit to the Niles Public Library in a few weeks. The exhibit - which “explores the history of pizza in Chicago and beyond” - will be in the Franklin Gallery on the library’s third floor from February 1 through March 31.

Pizza related artifacts including old menus, copies of films featuring pizza scenes and old magazines with famous pizzerias on the cover will be among the items displayed during the two-month stay in Niles.

The original menu from Burt’s Place in Morton Grove will be included in the display, according to a Journal & Topics article.

“The exhibition will explain what defines Chicago pizza styles and how they relate to regional styles throughout the United States,” according to the library. “New and vintage items from the U.S. Pizza Museum collection will bring the stories to life.”

The museum, created in 2015 by Kendall Bruns, recently stopped at three locations in the city of Chicago.

Its upcoming stop in Niles will include several programs, discussions and activities planned including “The history of pizza,” “pizza dough making” and “bedtime pizza math” for kids.

An employee of the library’s reference desk said it’s not uncommon for the library to feature something fun at least once a year. Last year it was an exhibit on Chicago's candy history.
