Car Drives Off I-94, Crashes Into Building: Northbrook Fire Department

A vehicle was fully involved in a fire following the Tuesday afternoon incident.

NORTHBROOK, IL — One person was taken to NorthShore Highland Park Hospital Tuesday afternoon after a car traveled off the Edens Expressway and drove into a building in Northbrook. According to the Northbrook Fire Department, the incident occurred at around noon. At least one other vehicle was involved in the accident.

The condition of the person taken to the hospital by a Northbrook ambulance was unknown at the time of this report.

A Northbrook official told Patch a vehicle was traveling eastbound on the Edens Expressway (I-94), left the roadway crossing at Frontage Road and drove into a building at 1840 Skokie Boulevard (Lewis Floor & Home). The vehicle was fully involved in fire and was extinguished by Northbrook fire companies.

The fire damaged the outside of the building, but did not extend inside the building, according to officials.

Illinois State Police are handling the investigation, according to Northbrook police.
