The Northbrook Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for its annual Leadership Northbrook program, an eight session class that offers a comprehensive, firsthand look at the inner workings of Northbrook. The program features presentations from top civic, business and government officials, along with private tours of some of the Village’s landmark businesses and community resources.

The eight session program begins on Friday, September 11 and concludes on Friday, April 8, 2016. The broad curriculum includes informative sessions on the history of Northbrook, the business climate, municipal government, local and regional transportation issues, education resources, life safety services, recreation and community amenities. Class participants not only learn from informative presentations by local experts, they also make important and lasting contacts with business and civic leaders. Many of Leadership’s graduates go on to hold important civic positions in the community including the Northbrook Plan Commission, Northbrook Economic Development Committee and numerous non-profit organizations.

Tours of prominent businesses are also on the agenda, including behind the scenes tours of Underwriters Laboratories, Bernhard Woodwork, Northbrook Court and Highland Baking. Classes are held at different Northbrook locations each month, including the Northbrook Historical Society, Village Hall, Techny Towers, Sportsman’s Country Club and Glenbrook Hospital. The program also includes a driving tour to see important Village landmarks, and a hands-on exercise designed to assist in personal and professional development at the Teams Challenge Course in Meadowhill Park.

Drawing on real world examples, the class is presented in a manner that is conducive to adult learning. The half day sessions are held on the second Friday of the month. The cost, which includes all materials and catering is $250. The class is open to residents of Northbrook, employees of Northbrook businesses, or anyone with an interest in learning more about the community. Applications must be received by August 28.
