20-year-old man arrested on multiple charges related to domestic disturbance after mom made his friends leave for drinking in house, police say.

Oak Lawn Man Tasered After Charging Mom

arrested a man after shooting him with a Taser while answering a domestic disturbance call on the 9800 block of South Moody Avenue.

Sam P. Czernek, 20, of the same Oak Lawn address, was charged with domestic assault, criminal damage to property and resisting arrest.

The man’s mother called police at 10:30 p.m. Nov. 18 to report that her son had put a hole in the wall with his head and ran out of the house with a knife, police said.

According to the report, the mom heard Czernek arguing with his girlfriend in the basement. When she went downstairs, she discovered her son and his friends drinking alcohol. After forbidding her son from drinking in the house, she ordered his friends to leave.

Police said Czernek became “enraged” when his mom made his friends leave, and head-butted the wall. After overturning tables, officers said he grabbed a knife and ran out of the house. His mother then called 911.

As police searched the neighborhood for Czernek, an officer remained behind at the house in case he returned. The officer saw Czernek walking from the backyard toward the house.

Activating his Taser gun because of reports that the man was possibly armed with a knife, the officer ordered Czernek to lay on the ground and put his hands behind his back, the report said.

The officer held Czernek at gunpoint while waiting for other police to return to the home. While lying on the ground, Czernek reportedly began screaming for his mother.

Police said the mother came to the door and told her son she didn’t want him in the house anymore. The officer holding Czernek told his mother to go back inside. Czernek jumped up and charged toward his mother, the report said.

The officer deployed his Taser, shooting Czernek in the arm with both probes. By this time, other police officers had returned and Czernek was handcuffed. The man refused medical attention from the police said.

At the time of the report, Czernek was being held at the police station pending a bond hearing at the Bridgeview courthouse on Nov. 19.
