Raspy-Voiced Robber Sticks Up Oak Lawn Gas Station

An armed robber held up an Oak Lawn gas station Wednesday evening and fled with approximately $300 cash.

Oak Lawn police were dispatched to the Speedway station at 9800 S. Cicero Ave. at 10:51 p.m., when an employee called 911 after the robber left.

The employee was cleaning when a male black wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, ski mask and gloves, holding a small black revolver entered the store and demanded money.

According to the employee, the robber had a deep raspy voice. The employee walked back behind the counter and opened the register, putting approximately $300 into a plastic gray Speedway bag.

After the employee handed the robber the bag, he told the employee to go sit in the back room and wait.

Police said the employee heard the robber leave the store but did not see which way he went.

The robbery remains under investigation.
