SXU Hosts Presidential Debate Watching Parties

Come watch the upcoming presidential debates on SXU's Chicago campus, hear from local officials on national issues, and register to vote.

CHICAGO, IL -- Will Hillary Clinton verbally lash Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential debates? Will Trump say something offensive?

If you’d like to watch the upcoming debates on a huge screen, hear from local elected officials on the issues, and register to vote, join Saint Xavier University for a debate watching party at the Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd Street in the Warde Academic Center.

SXU is planning parties for all three upcoming presidential debates, which are sure to be interesting. Residents and students are also invited to hear from local elected officials on how national issues affect us in our own backyard.

Prepare to exercise your right to vote by attending one or all of the debate watching parties, so you’re well informed on the issues most important to you. All of the parties will be held in various rooms at the Warde Academic Center.

Mark your calendars for the following dates:

  • Monday, Sept. 26, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. (presidential debate) McGuire Hall
  • Tuesday, Oct. 4, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. (VP Presidential Debate) Fourth Floor Board Room
  • Wednesday, Oct. 19, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. (Presidential Debate) Fourth Floor Board Room

Doors open at 7:15 p.m., so come and hear local elected officials answer questions from 7:30 to 7:45 p.m. Do you need to register to vote? If so, don’t worry because SXU students and residents will be able to register to vote at all of the debate watching parties..

Here are Voter Registration requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen;
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by Election Day;
  • Must have been a resident of the precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day.

Also, be sure to bring two forms of identification with at least one showing your current residence if you plan on registering to vote. A Social Security Card is also valid.

Lastly, light refreshments will be available at ALL the parties. All SXU students and residents interested in watching the debates on the SXU campus need to R.S.V.P. by emailing newsroom@sxu.edu.
