60 People Saved, 2 Hurt In Cicero Apartment Fire: Officials

Officials say the fire broke out on the 2nd floor and quickly spread to the 3rd floor.

CICERO, IL — Firefighters saved 60 residents and six cats from a blaze that tore through a three-story apartment building in the 1600 block of S. 50th Ct. in Cicero early Sunday and left it uninhabitable. The fire broke out on the second floor of the building around 6:30 a.m. and quickly consumed the rest of the complex, according to Cicero spokesperson Ray Hanania.

In a press release, Hanania said the building's wooden back porch caused the fire to spread so rapidly.

Two adults — one male and one female — sustained minor injuries during the blaze and were treated at a nearby hospital. According to Hanania, Cicero officials were assisting the remaining residents in finding temporary housing.
