Camelot of Oak Park celebrates Creative Arts Therapy Week

Students at the Therapeutic Day School worked with creative art therapists to grow through art and music.

How effective are music and art in bringing out the full potential of special needs students? Very effective in many cases, which is why Camelot includes Art Therapy and Music Therapy in many of their Illinois therapeutic day schools.

In celebration of Creative Arts Therapy Week from March 16-20, staff from Camelot’s Expressive Therapy Department visited schools throughout Illinois to facilitate workshops that emphasize the many ways students can grow through art and music.

On a March 18 stop at Camelot of Oak Park, students collaborated to create art and music about their creative potential. Students worked on images that were incorporated into a  sculpture taken to every Camelot TDS in Illinois throughout the week, and music was recorded to be put together with a slideshow from the week.

“It is the belief of Camelot's Expressive Therapy Dept. that that the creative processes involved in the visual and performing arts are healing and life enhancing,” said Camelot Art Therapist Megan Campbell. ”Our mission is to serve the students of Camelot by providing standards of professional competence, thereby developing the social and emotional good health necessary to promote academic and social growth in our students.”
