Greek Yogurt, Raw Juice Bar to Replace Caribou Coffee in Oak Park

Greek yogurt is all the rage these days—and not just because of John Stamos' Chobani ads. The new yogurt, raw juice bar will open in the old Caribou space in Oak Park this spring, the Wednesday Journal reports.

Greek Yogurt, Raw Juice Bar to Replace Caribou Coffee in Oak Park
Greek yogurt and raw juice bar, Fresko, will open in place of Caribou Coffee at Lake Street and Oak Park Avenue this spring.

Fresko, meaning "fresh" in Greek, "strives to bring that health conscious, fresh-food centered lifestyle to downtown Oak Park," according to a news release from David King & Associates.

Greek yogurt, said to be a healthier alternative to regular yogurt, has become all the rage in the past few years, and not just because of John Stamos' Chobani ads.

Greek yogurt is strained to remove liquid whey, lactose and sugar, and can provide up to double the protein of a regular yogurt with about half the sugar content,  according to a U.S. News report

"Nothing compares to raw, which is why all our juices are hand-crafted and packed full of live enzymes, nutrients, and minerals to greatly benefit your immune system," the release reads.

Fresko owner Gus Karamanas searched the Chicago area to find a town that "encompasses a healthy & fresh lifestyle," according to the release. "Oak Park reflected this mentality, in the mindful eating habits and the active way the people live their lives."

The menu will feature the "finest strained" Greek yogurt, raw juices, smoothies, and an array of organic and gluten free products, including olive oil, honey, mixed nuts, seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Caribou was among the 160 stores that closed in April 2013, leaving one store in Oak Park at 423 N. Harlem Ave. Karamanas signed a long-term lease with David King & Associates for the 1,100-square-foot space, according to the release.
