River Forest police have charged a Cicero man with the theft of three commercial air conditioning units about 4 a.m. Monday in the 7300 block of North Avenue, according to a news release from River Forest police.
Marcelino Perales, 32, was arrested after he was seen dismantling air conditioning units behind businesses on North Avenue, police said.
Police said Perales was using a car reported stolen out of Oak Lawn, and that he was charged in Riverside and wanted for questioning in Berwyn for similar incidents.
“This was excellent police work by police officers of our midnight shift," River Forest Deputy Police Chief James O'Shea said in a statement. "They were able to take a subject off the streets, who is suspected in several high value thefts and criminal damage of property incidents in the area.”
Perales, who is currently on Parole, is charged with three felony counts of Criminal Damage to Property. Additional charges are pending formal property value estimates being obtained by the property owners, police said.
