Angry Brother Confronts Hotel Guest With Gun Who Messed With His Sister: Prosecutor

Man told Orland Park cops he went to hotel to confront guest who he believed assaulted his sister, prosecutor said.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- A Matteson man was arrested after he was found carrying a loaded gun to settle a score with a guest at an Orland Park hotel, prosecutors said.

Christopher Myrick, 25, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a felony charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Myrick was also charged with misdemeanor mob action when he gathered some cousins to go with him to the hotel, court records said..

Orland Park police went to Homewood Suites, 16245 S. LaGrange Road, around 4:30 a.m. Dec. 4 for a noise complaint. The prosecutor said that Myrick was banging on the door of a guest and covering the peephole so the people inside couldn’t see him.

Police said Myrick was getting into a vehicle with two other people when hotel employees pointed him out to police. Officers found Myrick to be carrying a loaded .40-caliber Smith and Wesson, that had a live round in the chamber and 13 rounds in the magazine, the prosecutor said.

Myrick allegedly admitted to carrying the gun and had a valid FOID card, but not a conceal-carry permit. Myrick said that someone in room had assaulted his sister and he “wanted to assault the other person,” the prosecutor said.

A pretrial public safety assessment recommended that Myrick be released without conditions. The prosecutor said

“I can’t do that,” Judge Felice said. “What I read in the paper with all these shootings and retribution, I can’t do that.”

Bail was set at $30,000. Myrick was ordered to surrender any firearms and his FOID card to the Orland Park Police Department.
