Orland Park Village Vets Commission To Host D-Day Observance

D-Day vets and their families should RSVP, to have their names included in a special roll call.

Orland Park Village Vets Commission To Host D-Day Observance

The Village of Orland Park and its Veterans Commission will host a 70th Anniversary D-Day Commemoration Ceremony on Friday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Orland Park Veterans Memorial, 14700 S. Ravinia Ave.

Everyone is invited and the commission invites D-Day Veterans to be recognized for their heroic service on the beaches of Normandy 70 years ago.

After the ceremony, Larry Urbanski of Moviecraft will present a 16mm film called “D-Day Minus One,” using 16mm projection equipment inside of the adjacent Civic Center. These projectors were used extensively during WWII to disseminate news to the troops and to Americans back home.

The news reel will be followed by a presentation by Josh Fulton, associate professor of history at Moraine Valley Community College.

D-Day veterans and/or their family members planning to attend are asked to call Phil Bell at 708/860-2355 or Gail Blummer at 708-403-6115 to have their names included on a special roll call at the ceremony.
