Neither of Oswego School District's schools made the 2014 list of best high schools in the nation released by U.S. News & World Report this week.
The methodology, which was unchanged since last year, looks at three main factors to decide a school’s ranking: whether students are performing better than statistically expected for the average student in the state; whether disadvantaged students are performing better in math and reading than the state average for their peers; and the school’s “college-readiness” performance, based on AP or International Baccalaureate test data.
In Illinois, the Prairie State Achievement Examination is used to gauge student performance to determine the ranking.
The college readiness score for the No. 1-ranked Illinois school, Northside College Preparatory High School in Chicago, was 93.3. Oswego's schools ranked as follows:
- Oswego High School: 19.6
- Oswego East: 19.5
