Arson Suspected in Oswego Car Fire: Police

Fire destroyed a car in the 4000 block of Route 34.

Updated at 8:25 a.m. Sept. 11:

The Oswego Fire Protection District responded to an early morning fire that destroyed a vehicle parked outside a home in the 4000 block of Route 34.

Firefighters were dispatched at around 2:30 a.m. Thursday after a vehicle parked about 15 feet from the house became engulfed in flames, the fire department said.

No one was injured in the incident, but the vehicle was destroyed, according to the fire department.

Oswego police are investigating the blaze as a possible arson, Capt. Jeff Burgner said.

According to Burgner, police believe some type is accelerant was used to start the fire. A second vehicle parked near the car also sustained damage in the fire, he said.

Burgner said police collected evidence at the scene and continue to investigate the fire.
