PALATINE, IL — A Crystal Lake man faces child endangerment charges after he was found over the weekend allegedly intoxicated and slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle that was blocking traffic, according to Palatine police. Three young children were in the back of the vehicle at the time.
Jon Costa, 42, of the 100 block of Crystal Ridge Drive, was arrested and charged Saturday, Aug. 13, with felony driving under the influence and three counts of misdemeanor endangering the life of a child. He was released on $75,000 bail, and his court date is Sept. 7.
Police responded to a call at about 7 p.m. Saturday that a vehicle was blocking traffic in the eastbound lane of West Algonquin Road, west of South Roselle Road, and that the driver, Costa, slumped over his steering wheel. When officers reached the scene, they found Costa still slumped over the wheel and not moving, according to the police report. Eventually, police and members of the Palatine Fire Department were able to rouse Costa, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, the report added.
