Palatine Lights 2010: The Mepham Family

The Mephams have a highly visible Christmas display at the corner of Northwest Highway and Eagle Lane.

A Patch reader provided us with a good tip in our continuing search for impressive Christmas displays.

The Mepham home, located near the highly visible intersection of Northwest Highway and Eagle Lane, is a sight to see. Sucker shaped lights line the border of the front yard which is filled with festive decorations. The decor includes everything from a traditional nativity season to a Christmas theme park complete with ferris wheel.

"It's a family thing," said John Mepham, adding that each year the family spends a couple of weekends getting their home ready for the Christmas season.

The display changes each year, too. Mepham said the family has 30 to 40 decorations that were not used this year.

The Mephams have lived at 600 N. Eagle Lane for about eight years. The family als0 is known for its displays for other holidays such as Halloween.

"We try make it look like a haunted house," Mepham said, adding that the displays are fun for area kids.

Editor's Note: In previous columns we have featured the Drummond home at 844 E. Sayles Drive and the Schmidts at 991 N. Apple Tree Court.
