Tammy Duckworth Sworn in to Congress

After a stealth win over incumbent Congressman Joe Walsh, Tammy Duckworth was sworn in Thursday, January 3 in Washington D.C. as the new representative for the 8th congressional district

The ceremony was held at the Disabled American Veterans office.

“I want to thank the people of the 8th Congressional District for giving me the great honor of serving them in Congress," Duckworth said in a press release.

The press release went on to say, "I am eager to get to work on behalf of my constituents. There are many issues facing our nation and I will work with anyone who loves this country as much as I do to get her moving again."

Shortly before the election, Walsh made polarizing statements about abortion that brought a slew of criticism to him and his campaign.

Walsh has since hinted he would consider a run for Illinois governor in 2014.
