Looking Forward to the Cal-Sag Trail Link Up?

Cal-Sag Trail, a 33-mile trail which is expected to impact Palos Heights, Palos Park and Alsip, recently was awarded $3.6 million in federal money.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the funding will pay for segments between Route 83 and 104th Avenue and 104th and 86th avenues. Construction on the trail is scheduled to start this year.

Work done for the trail in the later half of 2012 was being accomplished behind the scenes. Palos Patch reported on the project moving head with paperwork needed to bid out the project in August.

"One of the biggest things we'll be able to see in the next couple of years is going to be the Cal-Sag Trail," Mayor Bob Straz said at his State of Palos Heights address earlier this month.

The bike path and walking trail nearest Palos Heights is set to be completed by Thanksgiving, Straz said. The section running from Palos Park to Lemont is expected to be open in 2014.

More information about the project is available on the Friends of Cal-Sag Trail website.
