Breaking It Down: The Wolves were looking for their first-ever winning season and a chance at a playoff berth. Things looked promising after recovering a fumble on the opening kickoff and scoring on a 6-yard pass to Scooter Smith to take an 8-0 lead.

The Tigers’ running game, led by running back Jay Roberts and quarterback Kurt Palandech, dashed those hopes very quickly as they overran and overwhelmed the Wolves defense. The Tigers imposed their will in the first half, scoring touchdowns on their first five possessions.

Palandech had an 88-yard QB sneak for a score in the first to give the Tigers a 14-8 lead. Roberts scored on a 36-yard run to close the first quarter and again early in the second on a nine-yard carry to put the Tigers up 28-8. Palandech added a 38-yard toss to Brett Fox in the second to give the Tigers a 35-8 lead.

The Wolves’ offense had no answer against the Tigers aggressive blitzes. QB Sean Kennedy was sacked seven times and was unable to get into any rhythm. The Wolves were unable to take advantage of the Tigers’ 10 penalties to try and close the gap.

The Tigers added two touchdowns to take a 48-8 lead in a contentious and emotional third quarter that saw several penalties for both sides. The Wolves managed a 39-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Lowe late in the fourth to cut the lead to 48-14.

Patch’s MVP: Kurt Palandech, Plainfield North. There was very little he didn’t do on Friday. He ran eight times for 180 yards and two scores. He threw a touchdown pass in the second quarter and had an interception on defense, as well.

Oswego East Stat Pack: Running back Chris Cooper had eight carries for 41 yards. Offensive lineman Killian Mills had a strong heads-up play on a fumble recovery in the first, preserving a two-point conversion for the Wolves.

Plainfield North Stat Pack: Jay Roberts had 15 carries for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Back Robert Baker had seven carries for 54 yards.

Quotable I: Oswego East coach Tyson LeBlanc on the season: “I’m very proud of this group of seniors. I told them that the success we have five years now will be because of what they accomplished.”

Quotable II: Plainfield North coach Tim Kane on the playoffs: “We’re going to take it one game at a time. Obviously, we can’t have letdowns on defense. We gotta settle down and can’t be hyped.”
