Plainfield Middle Schools Host 'Rachel's Challenge'

Editor's note: The following is a press release issued by .

Students at six of District 202’s seven middle schools will hear the inspirational story of Rachel Joy Scott this fall and learn how small changes they can make in their lives will help carry her message forward.

Representatives with the Rachel’s Challenge program will present special assemblies for students throughout September and October. District 202 has participated in the Rachel’s Challenge program for several years as part of its anti-bullying and character initiatives.

The Rachel’s Challenge program aims to spread Rachel Joy Scott’s message that positive actions and beliefs can start a chain reaction of kindness. Scott was the first person killed in the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999.

After her death, Scott’s father was inspired by his daughter’s diary entries of her desire to pay it forward and give everyone a chance.

Mr. Scott created an organization to encourage others to live as his daughter did, to positively affect others despite their differences.

Here is the schedule of Rachel’s Challenge programs for District 202 middle school students:

plans to host a Rachel’s Challenge program next school year.
