Plainfield Ordinance Bans Gun-Like Cellphone Cases

A violation of this ordinance comes with a $250 fine for the first offense and $500 for subsequent offenses.

A new ordinance proposed by Plainfield Police Chief John Konopek banning the purchase, use, possession and/or sale of cellphone cases that have the appearance of a handgun was approved by the Plainfield Village Board and is now in effect.

The cellphone cases often feature the grip of an actual handgun with a trigger guard attached to the housing of the cellphone cover, which makes them nearly indistinguishable from an actual firearm, according to a Facebook post from the Plainfield Police Department.

The penalty for violation of this ordinance is a $250 fine for the first offense and $500 for the second and subsequent offenses.
