State Police Warn of Black Ice, Hazardous Travel

Stay off the roads if you can.

State Police Warn of Black Ice, Hazardous Travel

Illinois State Police in Will, Grundy and Kendall counties are reminding motorists to take precautions as they travel this winter season, saying unnecessary travel is not advised on Tuesday

If travel is unavoidable this morning, motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution on the roadways and allow for extra travel time in order to reach their destination safely.

Hazardous road conditions are posing a threat to motorist this morning. Some roadways are snow covered due to blowing snow and there are areas with black ice.

Motorists are advised to limit their travels unless absolutely necessary. Motorists are also reminded to bring a charged cell phone, car charger, food, water, warm clothing and blankets should they become stranded for a long period of time.

State police troopers will be working around the clock to divert tragedies and keep our motorists safe. Icy roadways and drifting snow conditions may disrupt travel, so we are asking that you do your part, drive at a safe speed, and wear your seatbelts.

State police are also reminding motorists to remember to obey the "MOVE-OVER LAW:" When you see an emergency vehicle conducting duties with their emergency lights activated, please remember to slow down, change lanes away from all emergency vehicles and proceed with caution. Failure to do so may result in significant fines, suspension of your driver’s license and possibly time in jail.
