Still No New Tenant for Former Plainfield Barnes & Noble Site

A year after the store closed, the property owner said it's still in talks with several potential tenants.

Still No New Tenant for Former Plainfield Barnes & Noble Site
The former Plainfield Barnes & Noble store remains vacant, more than a year after the bookseller closed.

Last fall, a Halloween superstore briefly took up residence at the location, 12700 S. Route 59, but now the site is empty once more.

Ramzi Hassan, vice president of property owner Edwards Realty Co., said last year that the c ompany was courting retailers such as Trader Joe's for the site, but so far, a new tenant has failed to materialize. According to its website, Trader Joe's has no plans to open a Plainfield location.

In July, Hassan told Patch the company was trying to work with several possible tenants.

"Nothing is ruled out," he said. " ... With some of the larger corporations ... things take time."

As of last week, it appeared not much had changed. In an email to Patch, Hassan said his company had nothing new to report on the site.

"We are still negotiating with a few different users for the space," he said.

What would you like to see fill the space?
