Video Shows Muslim Man Accosted by Big-Mouthed Jerk While Driving in Plainfield

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Muslim man driving in his car was verbally assaulted by another driver Saturday afternoon in Plainfield.

The Muslim man, who asked that Patch not use his real name and will be known as John Doe, posted a video on Facebook that shows an unknown man yelling out highly offensive slurs to him.

In his post, Doe said he was driving down Route 59 in Plainfield when he heard a driver yell something at him.

“I thought he was a safe driver and telling me not to use my phone. I ignored it,” Doe said in the post.

The man then pulled ahead of him and stuck his hand out of the window in the shape of a gun and pulled the "trigger" three times, according to Doe’s post.

As both men pulled up to a red light at 127th Street, Doe rolled down his window to confront the man and was then barraged with several racially motivated insults. In the video, the man is heard saying he wipes his a-- with the Quran and pointed to the child seat in the back and said “Oh, you’ve got a little n----- in the back seat.”

No child was in the car with him at the time, Doe said. In fact, he was on his way to give his daughter a toy he had just bought for her.

Doe expressed remorse in responding to the man that he should have his head cut off after the man made a similar comment to him.

“As I was in shock and unprepared for a situation like this, he provoked me with his initial commentary (some occurred pre-recording) and I reacted poorly with a comment of my own,” Doe said in the post. “However, I gathered myself thereafter and stayed quiet throughout even though it further escalated. I hope this takes notice above that.”

Doe said he was able to get a clear picture of the man’s license plate and filed a police report with the Plainfield Police Department. A phone and text message left with police was not immediately returned Monday.

“9/11 happened when I was in high school,” Doe said. “I've heard it all, had cops pull me and my friends over unwarranted and search us. Also asking us if we have rockets and missiles in the trunk. 15 years later here we are.. never imagined having to go through this as an adult.”
