SKOKIE, IL - Playoff baseball and late-night stress go hand in hand if you are a fan of one of the six teams that remain in contention for the 2016 World Series championship.
It’s multiplied for the fan base of the Chicago Cubs, the only professional sports team that has gone more than 100 years without winning a championship. It's been a long 108 years since the Cubs last brought home the championship in 1908.
But a Skokie-based acupuncture specialist will do her part to lessen the tension that’s present for all Cubs fans, no matter how good the team is this year.

Amy Landolt, owner of the Northshore Acupuncture Center at 5225 Old Orchard Road in Skokie, will offer stress relief treatments on Cubs playoff game days for $19.08. She will also throw in red or blue “ear seeds” on an acupuncture point on the ear to help manage the anxiety.
"My brother is a die hard Cubs fan. The night the Giants won the wild card, he woke up and couldn't get back to sleep,” said Landolt, a die-hard Cubs fan herself. “He paces in between innings and doesn't have any nails left. He was the inspiration for providing stress relief treatments for fans during the playoff season."

In addition, the Northshore Acupuncture Center will provide complimentary stress relief treatments at the Ten Ninety Brewing Company at 1025 N. Waukegan Rd. in Glenview on Tuesday, Oct. 18 during Game 3 of the National League Championship Series.
Landolt also has put together some “stressbusting” tips for Cubs fans who don’t want to try acupuncture. Here are three ways to keep calm without the use of any needles.
- “Take time to smell the lavender: Essential oils can have a powerful effect on our mood and emotions. Diffusing lavender, roman chamomile, or a calming blend has a calming effect and promotes a feeling of relaxation. If you are watching the game somewhere that you cannot diffuse oils, put a couple drops in the palm of your hand and inhale.”
- “Have a cuppa tea: Add a cup of passion flower, chamomile, or decaffeinated green tea which have all been shown to help ease stress and anxiety into your beverage rotation while watching the game.”
- “Belly breathing: When you are stressed, your breathing becomes more shallow and rapid. Shallow, rapid breathing causes the body to remain in a state of fight or flight. By taking deep, slow breaths, you activate the parasympathetic (rest and digest) system which promotes a state of calmness. Shallow breathing limits the diaphragm’s range of motion. The lowest part of the lungs doesn’t get filled with oxygenated air, which can make you feel short of breath and anxious.”
