Orland Fire District Firefighter Dies in I-57 Accident Sunday

An Orland Fire Protection District firefighter was killed in a car wreck on Interstate 57 Sunday morning while driving to work.

Wes Peak, of Manteno, was 36 years old and served with the Orland fire district for seven years.

“He touched so many lives in a positive way; it is equally heartbreaking to the organization as it is on his family. Wes was killed in a tragic single vehicle accident this morning,” said Orland Fire Protection District Chief Ken Brucki in a statement released Sunday evening.

The accident took place on I-57 in Matteson and is under investigation. Officials said his vehicle struck a pole.
