Tinley Park 7-Eleven Robbed With Kitchen Knife

Police are looking for a white male who made off with about $100 after robbing the 7-Eleven at 7601 W. 159th St. with a 12- to 14-inch kitchen knife.

The man is described as about 35 to 40 years old, about 5 foot 9 inches tall, with short brown hair and a goatee. He wore a white hooded sweatshirt, blue jean shorts and white gym shoes. He was last seen running east from the store at about 3 a.m. May 10.

According to police, the man entered the store and walked up to the clerk stocking shelves, brandished a knife and said: “I’m not here to hurt you. Just do as I say and you won’t get hurt.”

The man was in the store about five to 10 minutes, talking on his cell phone, police said. The clerk said the man smelled of alcohol.

As the man ran out of the convenience store, the closing door hit his hand, causing him to drop the knife, police said. He left the knife and ran off, police said.

Tinley Park police Cmdr. Steve Vaccaro said on Thursday that the incident is under investigation.
