Coyote Kills Dog in Wheaton

A coyote attacked and killed a schnauzer in Wheaton late Friday night.

Coyote Kills Dog in Wheaton

A coyote killed a dog in the 600 block of Plamondon Court in Wheaton around 11:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21.

A resident told police the coyote attacked his black and white schnauzer around 10:30 p.m. after jumping the resident's fence, according to Wheaton police.

Wheaton police remind residents:

  • Section 14-102 of the Wheaton City Code prohibits the feeding of coyotes.
  • Teaching coyotes where they are not welcome can be accomplished with hazing to change the behaviors of habituated coyotes and reestablish a natural fear of humans. If residents encounter an unwelcome coyote:  yell at the coyote; use a noisemaker; throw objects at it; clap hands; run toward it; and, spray it with a garden hose.
  • Small pets and small children should be monitored by an adult when outdoors.  Wild animals are not domesticated.  Residents should phone 9-1-1 anytime a wild animal acts aggressively toward humans.
