November's WWEA Educator Spotlight

The WWEA would like to introduce Mrs. Susan Martin, a 23 year educator with 17 years experience in District 200.

The Wheaton Warrenville Education Association (WWEA) would like to introduce Mrs. Susan Martin, a 23 year educator with 17 years experience in District 200. Mrs. Martin teaches in the Math Department at Wheaton North High School. Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Algebra 2/Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus are several of the courses she has mastered in the classroom over her career. Her Bachelor’s Degree was earned from Millikin University in Mathematics and she earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership through Aurora University.

Mrs. Martin has coached numerous athletic teams over her career. At Wheaton North she coached multiple levels of girls’ basketball from 1999 through 2003 and Freshman girls’ softball in 2011. She has participated on various school improvement committees throughout her career at Wheaton North. Mrs. Martin’s most recent contribution with an extracurricular activity took place when she trained with the WN Step Team to perform a routine in front of the school during their Homecoming Assembly.

Mrs. Martin always wanted to be a teacher and she is proud to work in the public education system. She greatly enjoyed school as a child and was inspired by teachers to choose education as her career. She values the time she shares with her students in the classroom and believes that education is the most challenging, but rewarding of all careers. She tells her parents on Curriculum Night, “I teach students, not math.” One of her favorite experiences as an educators is when students return to her after graduation to say thank you. She appreciates the willingness of former students to keep her updated on their successes in life. “This is what teaching is about; supporting and educating our students to ensure they have the best possible future,” said Mrs. Martin.
