September's WWEA Educator Spotlight
The Wheaton Warrenville Education Association (WWEA) would like to introduce Mrs. Laura Ramey, a 9 year educator in District 200.

The Wheaton Warrenville Education Association (WWEA) would like to introduce Mrs. Laura Ramey, a 9 year educator in District 200. Mrs. Ramey teaches French and Spanish at Wheaton Warrenville South High School and French at Edison Middle School. Mrs. Ramey earned her Bachelor’s in K-12 Education to teach French and Spanish from Augustana College. She also has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Aurora University and an ESL (English as a Second Language) endorsement from National Louis University. Currently, Mrs. Ramey is enrolled with Devry University to earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology.
Mrs. Ramey is an active member in District 200. She has been a Key Club sponsor at Wheaton Warrenville South High School for four years. Key Club is an activity that provides community service opportunities to high school students. She is extremely proud of their efforts and the club has grown to over 300 student members who are willing to volunteer their time to the communities within Wheaton and Warrenville. Last year, the members logged nearly 5,000 hours of community service. Mrs. Ramey is also coaching Varsity Badminton and has for the previous three years.
Mrs. Ramey moved to Wheaton as a child and entered the 4th grade at Wiesbrook Elementary in District 200. Her positive experience at Wiesbrook Elementary followed her as she entered Hubble Middle School and Wheaton Warrenville South High School. With each passing grade she became excited about the field of education and knew this was an avenue she wished to pursue further. Mrs. Ramey knew world languages were her passion when she met Ms. Nancy Irey, who taught French at WWS, and Mr. James Selleck, who taught Spanish at WWS. These educators inspired her to follow her passion. During her undergraduate, she studied abroad in Dijon, France and Salamanca, Spain to enhance her language skills. Mrs. Ramey stated that after graduation she lucked out because there was an open Foreign Language position at Wheaton Warrenville South. The program at Wheaton Warrenville South is unique in that the educators teach with 100% immersion at all levels, which means courses are taught in the language to be learned, either German, French, or Spanish. She is very pleased to be educating students in the school and school district that inspired her passion for learning. She intends to share her passion and love of language with her students with the hope that they will pursue opportunities to study abroad or to learn about a variety of cultures.
