Wheaton City Council Approves Increase in Ambulance Fee
The Wheaton City Council approved an increase in ambulance fees during its Monday meeting.

The new fees will mean a resident needing advanced life-support services will pay $1,022 while a resident requiring basic life support will pay $655. Under the new fee structure, a resident not needing a transport to the hospital will pay $100 and a patient living in Wheaton will now pay $12 per mile traveled while in the ambulance, according to city documents. Non-resident fees are even steeper and can be found here.
City staff members requested the increase in fees to cover the entire cost of the emergency medical services and ambulance program, the Daily Herald reports. Prior to the changes, revenue from fees only covered about 70 percent of the program. In 2016-17, expenditures for the program is expected to be $1.6 million.
The new fees will take effect starting on May 1.
