New Trier Girls Place 4th, Boys 14th in Cross Country State Meet

Senior Courtney Ackerman took fourth individual place in the girls' race.

The New Trier girls’ cross country team finished fourth in Saturday’s Class 3A state championship race while the boys’ team took 14th in its contest.

Senior Courtney Ackerman was the school’s top individual finisher, placing third with a time of 16:27. Ethan Kaplan finished first among New Trier boys, taking 53rd place overall with a time of 15:06.

The state meet races were held at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Illinois.

Though the girls’ and boys’ teams fared well in Saturday’s race, both fell short of last year’s results when the New Trier girls’ team won the state meet and the boys’ team finished 11th.

Expectations were high heading into Saturday’s meet, as New Trier girls’ team returned three of its five top finishers from last year’s race. Though Courtney Ackerman was able to better both her place and finishing time (she finished fourth overall with a 16:50 in 2011), sophomore Mimi Smith and senior Jessica Ackerman both finished slightly further back in the field than last year despite besting their state meet times.

Smith finished 12th Saturday with a time of 16:56 and Jessica Ackerman took 16th overall with a time of 17:00.

York Community High School won the Class 3A boys meet and Jack Keelan of St. Ignatius College Prep was the top individual with a finishing time of 14:05.

Naperville North High School won the Class 3A girls meet and Madeline Perez of Glenbard West High School was the individual winner, recording a state record time of 16:02.
