Officials: Slain Woodridge Man Involved in Heroin Ring

Officials: Slain Woodridge Man Involved in Heroin Ring

A Woodridge man fatally shot in the last week was a federal defendant in a heroin distribution ring, according to the Chicago Tribune. 

Authorities say , peddled heroin with six others on Chicago's west side. He was indicted Dec. 6 on federal drug charges in the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois.

Dec. 8 around 11 a.m. Woodridge police have said there was evidence of forced entry. His two daughters were home at the time but were not harmed, the Tribune reported. 

The indictment came after heroin transactions Holden made with a confidential informant who had been cooperating with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration since 2006, officials said.

Holden was arrested in October with his co-defendants in connection with using stash houses on Chicago's west side and avoiding police detection, according to the Tribune.

The along with investigators from the regional Felony Investigation Assistance Team are investigating the murder, police said. 

No charges have been filed, though "investigators are aggressively following all possible leads," according to a news release from police.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
