If there’s an animal that’s most closely associated with cops, it’s a dog. But one little kitten was found trying to fit in with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Kendall County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sergeant Joe Jasnosz, the kitten was found in Detective Byron Maggos’ car after Maggos heard meowing.

“He looked and looked and couldn’t find where this sound was coming from,” Jasnosz said. “A few people came out to look for the cat and we heard it meowing more and more.”

Using a flashlight, officers were able to look in the car and they found a little bit of fur. They thought it was hidden in the front bumper part of the car. They removed the headlight and found the kitten.

As officers reached down to grab the kitty, he jumped down and ran to the back of the car and went up in the back suspension.

“We tried for half an hour to 45 minutes to get him out of the back of the car, but we could hardly reach him” Jasnosz said.

The officers got some cat food to try to coax him out of the car, but the kitty ran back to the engine compartment.

However, being the professionals they are, the officers were able to put their skills to test and safely remove the kitten from the car.

Despite the efforts to safely rescue the kitten, it doesn’t look like he’ll be making a home at the station. Police took the kitten to animal control and are hoping that if someone owns him, they will come forward to claim him.

Their best guess right now as to where the kitten came from is the Plano area, where Detective Maggos lives.

“We think the cat most likely hitched a ride from a residential area here to the sheriff’s office,” Jasnosz said.
