Boyhood Passion Becomes Urbandale Sports Cards and Memorabilia Shop

A trader of sports cards since he was 8 years old, Ryan Grother has turned his passion into a business.

Grother has opened a sports cards, memorabilia and supplies store called ryanscardz at 8451 Hickman Road in Urbandale's Cobblestone shops, according to the Des Moines Register.

Inventory for the 1,600-square-foot shop comes from customers selling their collections and from wholesalers.

“I am surprised at the stuff that comes in every day,” he told the newspaper.

Although much of his business is baseball, basketball, football and hockey cards, Grother sells many autographed items like jerseys and sports equipment.

Grother previously worked in insurance and banking, the paper reported.
