More than 13,000 customers were without power in Harford County, particularly in the northern areas, Emergency Manager Rick Ayers said in a 5 p.m. statement. BGE and Delmarva Power were having trouble restoring service because ice, fallen trees and branches covered power lines.
To assist those without power, the county is opening three shelters, the Harford County's Department of Emergency Services reported:
- Patterson Mill High School; 85 Patterson Mill Rd., Bel Air
- Darlington Fire Company; 2600 Castleton Rd., Darlington
- Whiteford Fire Company; 1407 Pylesville Rd., Rt. 165.
Weapons will not be permitted into the shelters, officials said.
Additional outages may occur, as winds are supposed to pick up and temperatures will drop into the teens overnight, Ayers said.
Harford County Emergency Management, the Department of Community Services, the Department of Social Services and the American Red Cross are working together to assist those who have lost power, the statement said.
The following hotline has been activated for non-emergency-related questions in Harford County: 410-838-5800.
