U.S. Route 40 To Be Shut Down At MD Route 715

Westbound lanes of U.S. Route 40 will be closed and detoured at MD Route 715 this week.

The Maryland State Highway Administration will close the lanes between 11 p.m. on Wednesday and 5 a.m. Thursday, and again from 11 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. on Friday.

Traffic will be re-routed onto the ramp that leads from Route 40 West to MD 715 North, then onto the ramp from 715 North to Route 40 West.

Eastbound U.S. Route 40 will remain opened.

The closure allows for the widening of the overpass that carries MD Route 715 over U.S. Route 40. The bridge will be expanded from two lanes to four.

The construction is part of the State Highway Administration's $18 million project to improve the interchange that serves as a primary vessel into 's main gate on MD Route 715.

The construction follows the BRAC, or Base Realignment and Closure, transfer of thousands of jobs from New Jersey to APG.

If weather prohibits the construction Wednesday into Friday, the road closures will be delayed until next week, beginning on weeknights.
