MARYLAND — After temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s, an early spring storm will soak the East Coast this weekend, bringing cool temperatures, wind and rain to Maryland, plus a possibility of thunderstorms.

This is the same storm system that caused heavy flooding and snow in California on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to AccuWeather. The storm will raise the risk of severe weather and flash flooding in south central states Thursday and Friday, forecasters say.

The storm will reach Maryland with rain and wind beginning Friday and lasting through Saturday, per AccuWeather.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor through central Maryland, northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

A few isolated instances of flooding are possible, mainly north of Highway 50 and Interstate 66.

“Following a warmup that will last into the end of the week in parts of the East, a wedge of chilly air will work its way southward into the Northeast Friday,” said AccuWeather forecasters. “This will set the stage for some drenching rain in many areas but also a dose of wintry precipitation over the northern tier from Friday night to Saturday night.”

A cold front will bring clouds and rain to the Commonwealth, the National Weather Service said Friday.

"Locally heavy rain is possible. High temps each day will vary greatly from north to south, by up to 20-30 degrees from the MD/PA border to Central VA," the NWS tweeted.

Weather predictions call for snow to again stay far away from the mid-Atlantic states, with frozen precipitation falling mostly above the Great Lakes states and parts of the Northeast.

Temperatures Friday and Saturday will be close to normal, the NWS added, with weather “remaining unsettled” through Saturday night. There is a possibility of thunder and lighting across Maryland as the rain moves in.
