Anne Arundel Police Mourn K-9 Officer Bodi's Death
Four-legged officer Bodi died from cancer last week, said the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
MILLERSBURG, MD — Hearts are heavy at the Anne Arundel County Police Department after Bodi, one of its canine officers, died Friday from cancer.
Corporal Matt Sanchez and K-9 Bodi began their career together in 2013 and continued to work patrol and narcotics detection until recently, when Bodi was diagnosed with cancer. Bodi, although sick, continued to enjoy visits from his friends and family since his diagnosis.
In February 2015, Bodi received a bullet- and stab-proof vest from a nonprofit venture and donors. The 4-year-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix was certified in patrol functions and narcotics detection.

Bodi was honored with his final salute at the Greater Annapolis Veterinary Hospital, which cares for the department's K-9 partners.

"Our hearts are heavy and thoughts and prayers are with Bodi and his partner Cpl. Sanchez during this difficult time," the department said Monday on Facebook. "He was loved by his police and home family more than we can express. Thank you Bodi, we know you will have our backs from the other side of the Rainbow Bridge!"

Dozens of county residents took to Facebook to thank Sanchez and his canine partner for their service.
This was typical of the many messages left for police. Resident Jeff Love wrote, "K9 Bodi we thank you for your loyal service to our community. Cpl. Sanchez please know that God has a special place for loyal servants like Bodi. Our hearts are with you and your family."
